Friendly Steps The Trip

A mind-bending playtest slice for veterans whose sidewalks already feel too honest.

The Trip Level

The Trip is the named playtest slice KORO.GAMES billed for veteran travelers in late June 2026. The studio’s own post did not sell it as another street. It sold a surreal dimension: melting floors, logic that does not exist, flying neon beer bottles, and hallucinations you will trip over while the rope still expects tiny steps. If Construction is height and Tornado is height plus spite, The Trip is visibility plus panic.

This page is a briefing, not a fake room-by-room spoiler of a build that was time-boxed. The public wave asked players to Request Access on Steam, play immediately, and drag up to three friends who then got instant access. The window was a few days, with a cap around 1,000 joiners. The series of playtests was already winding down. Treat footage from that week as evidence of tone, not as a promise that every prop is in the September 3, 2026 launch.

Read How to walk and the co-op guide first. The Trip punishes people who still mash Space. It also punishes people who look at the scenery instead of their soles.

What the studio actually said

The Steam community post called players psychonauts and told them breaking through the matrix was easy even if their brain was fried. Under the joke: this is a visibility and orientation exam. The lantern-cave press shot on this page matches that pitch — still a rope, suddenly a different night. Skeletons, bats, and a lamp are props. Your feet are the mechanic.

Do not invent a lore dungeon. There is no confirmed quest log titled The Trip in a public patch note. There is a playtest name, a tone shift, and a set of physics rules that do not change because the floor looks melted.

How to walk when the world is lying

  • Shorten steps more than you did on a park path. If the camera is pretty, you are about to fall.
  • Assign a boring lead. The person who wants to role-play horror will take bigger strides.
  • Ban bottles. Neon beer flying past your head is already the joke. Drinking on this map is how you add a second hallucination. See items.
  • Freeze during any impulse that looks like wind, melt, or a moving floor. Walk in the lull.
  • Keep high-contrast skins. Dark punk in a dark cave is a self-inflicted fog of war.

Kaif’s playtest session in the middle of this page is useful even when the squad is still on more ordinary ground, because he states a rope fact the wiki was missing: you are only linked to the person next to you in line. That adjacency rule matters more when the floor looks like soup. If player two walks into a hallucination, player four does not get a magic tug until the middle of the chain moves. Pull still needs a look and the E input from the controls page.

Rope order on a surreal map

Put the calmest tapper first. Put the most patient puller last. Do not put your loudest friend in the middle of a melting hallway. If someone in the chain is on the floor, the person ahead should come back down rather than stretching the adjacent link into a zip-line. That is the same lesson as a crane, just with worse lighting. Details sit in the co-op guide.

If two people hang, reset. Crawling a hallucination is how The Trip eats an hour. Checkpoints, if your build gives them, are more valuable than any neon bottle.

How this sits next to Construction and Tornado

  • Construction is yellow steel and a tractor measuring your fall.
  • Tornado is vertical with no nets.
  • The Trip is a tone and visibility tax. Height may still exist. The unique pain is looking at the wrong thing.

The route tier list parks this slice in A-tier for most squads: not always the longest drop, often the fastest panic. City streets in the walkthrough are still the teaching biome. Come here second or third, not first.

After the playtest window

If your Steam button no longer says Playtest for The Trip, you are not missing a secret key. The wave was finite. The September 3, 2026 launch is scheduled to add more locations in the same spirit. When a launch map reuses this name, this page will say so. Until then, keep the habits: tiny steps, freeze, pull, no beers, high-contrast outfits.

The lantern does not plant your foot. You do. If the floor melts and you still tap small, you are ready for whatever the full city does next.

Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common Friendly Steps questions.

Is The Trip in the full game?

It was a named June 2026 playtest slice. The full Steam launch is still scheduled for September 3, 2026 with more locations. Treat the tone and walking rules as launch-relevant even if the exact cave changes.

How do I access The Trip now?

The public wave used Request Access on Steam and lasted a few days with a join cap. If that button is gone, play the demo and wait for launch maps.

Should new players start here?

No. Learn on city streets first. The beginner guide and How to walk come before any melting floor.

Does the rope work differently on The Trip?

No. You are still linked to the adjacent player in line. Pull, freeze, and tiny steps still win. The world just lies to your camera.
