Friendly Steps System Requirements

Friendly Steps is a 1.5 GB class install, not a 150 GB shooter. It still simulates several drunk bodies, a rope, and a city full of props. If your machine is below the Steam minimum, the joke becomes a slideshow and the rope desyncs. This page copies the public spec as closely as store listings allow and then translates it into buy-or-wait advice.

Always re-check the Steam app page on launch morning. Specs can tick up with a day-one depot. This wiki will not invent higher numbers to sound careful, and it will not pretend a toaster is enough because the art is stylized.

Windows minimum (public listing)

• OS: Windows 10 64-bit
• Processor: Intel Core i5-4460 or AMD FX-8320 / Ryzen 3 1200 class
• Memory: 8 GB RAM
• Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750 Ti / GTX 950 or AMD Radeon R7 260X / RX 550 class
• DirectX: 11
• Network: Broadband (even if you think you are playing locally — online sessions exist)
• Storage: 1.5 GB
• Sound: listed with a joke about audio gambling; you still want working output for voice chat

Windows recommended (public listing)

• OS: Windows 10/11 64-bit
• Processor: Intel Core i7-4770K or AMD Ryzen 5 1500X class
• Memory: 16 GB RAM
• Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti or AMD Radeon RX 560 class (4 GB VRAM listings in some European roundups)
• Storage: 1.5 GB

If you are between min and rec, expect to lower shadows and cap FPS during four-player ragdoll piles. Construction cranes and Tornado drops are worse than a flat sidewalk because more world stays in view.

macOS and Linux

Store trackers list macOS and Linux next to Windows. Steam Deck compatibility is unknown on the store widget this wiki saw. Do not buy a Deck dock on the assumption that Tiny Steps equals Tiny GPU load. Verify Proton or native status on Steam after launch. Until then, Windows is the documented happy path.

Controllers, overlay, and online extras

Steam lists full controller support and DualShock compatibility. Demo 1.4.4 improved pad navigation in the skin shop, which is a good sign for couch play. Keyboard and mouse remain the mapping most streamers explain; see Controls.

Online features in the same listings: Steam Cloud, achievements, leaderboards, voice chat, LAN co-op, online co-op. Broadband is not optional if you invite remote friends. A host on a saturated upload will look like a physics bug. That is a network bug. Use Ethernet.

Remote Play Together appears on some store trackers. Useful when only one person owns the launch build. Still needs the host to meet spec.

Practical troubleshooting

• Hitch when someone falls: four ragdolls. Cap FPS, drop shadows, close the browser that is also decoding four streamer VODs.
• Desync on the rope: host migration, then everyone disables conflicting Steam Input overlays.
• Fonts look broken: update to demo 1.4.4 or later. That patch rebuilt multilingual fonts. See Updates.
• Menu stuck over a loading screen: also a 1.4.4 target. Update before filing it again.
• Audio missing: check default Windows device; the store joke about sound cards is not a spec waiver.

Buy / wait / demo

If you are under the minimum GPU, play the demo first and watch the frame time when two friends join. If the demo already stutters, the September 3, 2026 launch will not magically add a GTX 1050. If you are above recommended, you are fine — spend your worry on tiny steps, not on ray tracing, which this game does not ask for.
