Friendly Steps Locations

Every kind of ground that wants your rope on the floor.

Locations and Map

Friendly Steps is a night city with specialist maps bolted on. The Steam feature list promises various locations and challenging routes. Playtests then named three of them in public: Construction, The Trip, and Tornado. This page is a field guide to the ground types so you can pick a walkthrough plan instead of walking into a glow.

The bar

Every honest session starts here. It is a staging room with a joke and a rope. Use it to pick skins, confirm the controls, and name a lead. Do not drink the bar dry. The walk is the event.

City streets

Sidewalks, benches, trash, burst pipes, cops, and other pedestrians. The press-kit street shot on this page is the mood: a rope of mismatched bodies trying to occupy a lane that already has a job. Streets are the teaching biome. Falls are short. Pride is optional. This is where you drill tiny steps from How to walk.

Watch corners. A lead who cuts a corner wraps the rope around a hydrant or a cop. Middles should call obstacles like a rally crew.

Hills and stairs

Hills change stride length. Stairs demand stations. Both look ordinary in screenshots and both farm wipes for squads that still sprint. The rule is the same as a beam: both feet of the person in front should be settled before the next body climbs. If the co-op anchor is still on the previous step, the line freezes.

Bridges and rails

Bridges are Construction for people who are not ready for Construction. The night-bridge hero image on the homepage is the canonical fail: one walker, one dangler, one person still moving. Pull. Do not race the sag.

Rails exist to trick FPS muscle memory. They are not cover. They are a fulcrum for the rope.

Parks and playgrounds

Steam’s own copy lists parks and playgrounds next to sketchy shortcuts. Parks are visually calm and physically rude. Roots, slopes, and benches sit at shin height. Playgrounds add equipment that looks climbable and is usually a joke. Take the path around the equipment unless you are filming a clip on purpose.

Construction

Named playtest. Cranes, rebar, open floors. Full briefing on the Construction page. If the skyline turns into yellow steel, you have left the city biome.

The Trip

Late June 2026 playtest language called this an alpha version of “The Trip” for veteran travelers, a mind-bending slice. The lantern-cave screenshot with a skeleton in the background matches that tone shift: still a rope, suddenly a different night. Official copy mentioned melting floors, flying neon beer bottles, and hallucinations. Treat it as a visibility and panic check. Look at your feet, not at the props. The full briefing is the The Trip guide. Assign a lead who will be boring on purpose.

Tornado

Last open playtest map, highly vertical, no nets. Full briefing on the Tornado page. Do not wander in because the name sounds exciting.

Shortcuts and side paths

Hidden shortcuts are a listed feature and a trap. A good shortcut is a slightly steeper sidewalk. A bad shortcut is a beam with a view. Use the tier list before you follow a glow. Side quests and “suspicious bozos” are for second nights, after you can finish a main sidewalk sober.

The full September 3, 2026 launch is scheduled to add more of all of the above. This wiki will name new maps when the studio does. Until then, learn the biomes, not a fake world map with invented street names.

When you are choosing a first session, stay in streets and parks. When you are choosing a second session, add a bridge. When you are choosing to test a friendship, add Construction. That ladder is the whole geography of Friendly Steps.

Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common Friendly Steps questions.

Is there an open-world map screen?

Play it as a route through connected spaces, not as a marker-filled RPG map. Learn biomes: street, hill, bridge, park, then the named specialist maps.

What is The Trip?

A playtest slice billed as mind-bending for veterans. Expect a tone shift and worse visibility. Keep the same tiny-step rules.

Which location should beginners use?

City streets. Save Construction and Tornado until the rope can freeze on command.

Do shortcuts skip whole biomes?

Sometimes they skip a hill and tax you with a beam. Read the walkthrough before you follow a glow on night one.
