Friendly Steps Tornado Guide
The last open playtest map. Highly vertical. No nets. Pure hardcore pain.
Tornado was the last named open playtest KORO.GAMES put in front of veterans before the September 3, 2026 launch. The studio’s own warning was not subtle: the map is highly vertical, one wrong stumble sends you to the starting line, and there are no safety nets. If Construction is a crane, Tornado is the crane plus weather plus spite.
You should not open this page as a first lesson. Finish the habits on How to walk, survive a city night in the walkthrough, and clear a Construction beam without arguing. Then come here.
What “last open playtest” means
In July 2026 the team called Tornado the last open playtest before reality snaps back, alongside demo 1.4.4 polish. That is developer language for a stress test. They wanted people who already knew the legs. Joining a Tornado lobby with a friend who still mashes Space is how you farm the starting line.
The full game is still upcoming as of this wiki’s launch window. Named playtest maps are the best preview of the hard routes Ytopia will ship. Play Tornado as a boot camp, not as a lore dungeon. There is no need to invent a storm plot the studio did not write.
Vertical logic
Height is the mechanic. Platforms are small. Falls are long. Checkpoints, if your build gives them, are far apart compared to city curbs. Play as if every plant is the last checkpoint even when a flag exists.
Wind or storm dressing, if present in your build, is a reason to shorten steps even more. A stride that works on a calm sidewalk becomes a sail. Hold the forward key more gently. Tap more often. If a gust is a real physics impulse, freeze during the impulse and walk in the lull. Do not “lean into” wind on a rope. Leaning is how three silhouettes end up hanging off a cliff at sunset — which is the screenshot on this page.
Rope discipline in a vertical map
- The lead announces every lift.
- Nobody walks while a pull is happening.
- The hanging player stops tapping so the pendulum does not spin.
- After a save, all four (or two, or three) square both feet before the next call.
- If two people hang, you are probably resetting. That is cheaper than a five-minute crawl up a cliff.
The co-op guide pull rules are mandatory here. E-to-pull while looking at the victim is not optional flavor. It is the map.
What to ban for the whole run
Ban bottles. Ban sightseeing. Ban “I know a skip.” Tornado is where skip culture goes to die. If a side path exists, assume it is a vertical joke. The tier list parks this map in the top pain tier for a reason.
Keep costumes simple. A funny skin does not change hitboxes in a way that will save you, and extra emotes are still physics. Save the streamer outfit for the city.
After you clear it — or after you do not
If you clear Tornado, your city night will feel slow in a good way. Take that slowness back to the locations page and walk parks like they are still cliffs. If you do not clear it, you still learned something: your metronome has holes. Go back to a flat street and drill the five-minute exercise on the controls page.
Demo notes around the same week rebuilt fonts and fixed menu UI during scene transitions. If Tornado hitches, check system requirements and verify you are on the latest demo branch before you blame the storm.
This map is a filter. It is allowed to beat you. The wiki’s job is to tell you why, not to pretend a written route can hold your center of mass against a drop.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common Friendly Steps questions.
When did the Tornado playtest go live?
Developer posts in mid-2026 billed it as the last open playtest, alongside demo 1.4.4. The full game is still scheduled for September 3, 2026.
Is Tornado harder than Construction?
Yes for most squads. Construction has brutal height. Tornado adds verticality with even less forgiveness. Rankings are on the tier list.
Can we crawl the whole map?
Crawl is for recovery, not for a whole vertical route. You will still need planted feet on small platforms. See How to walk.
Should new players join a Tornado lobby?
No. Learn on city streets first. Invite them after they can freeze and pull on command, as described in the co-op guide.
