Friendly Steps Guides
Every tutorial for the walk you will not finish in a straight line.
This hub is the map for every Friendly Steps how-to on the wiki. The game looks like a joke about drunk friends, and it is, but the first hour is a real skill check: you aim each leg, you share a rope, and the city is built to punish anyone who treats it like a normal walking sim.
Start with Getting Started if you have not left the bar yet. Jump to the controls guide if your squad is already screaming about mouse buttons. Open the co-op rope guide before you invite a fourth player. When you can stand, the walkthrough and the locations page tell you which streets are jokes and which streets are traps.
What these guides actually cover
Friendly Steps mixes QWOP-style legs with a Chained Together rope. That split creates two different player questions. One group searches for how to walk at all. The other group already walks and wants Construction, Tornado, shortcuts, beers, and speedrun lines. This hub keeps both groups in the same nav tree so you do not have to guess the URL.
Use this order on a first night:
- Getting Started — Steam, demo versus full game, what happens after the wives text.
- Controls — keyboard, mouse, and gamepad mapping, plus the tap rhythm streamers actually use.
- How to walk — balance, crawl, tiny steps, and why big strides dump the whole rope.
- Co-op — who leads, when to pull with E, and how to stop a fall from becoming a squad wipe.
- Walkthrough — bar to home, side quests, and when to ignore a glowing shortcut.
Level and route pages
Playtests named specific maps that players still search. Construction is the vertical building-site route with cranes, rebar, and no polite ground. Tornado was the last open playtest map before launch, sold as a hardcore vertical gauntlet. The Trip is the surreal slice: melting floors, neon bottles, and a camera that lies. The locations guide pulls those together with hills, stairs, bridges, parks, and playgrounds. When the HUD timer is the point, open the speedrun guide.
If you are hunting bottles, benches, and the drink counter in the HUD, go to items. If you want a first-impression verdict before spending a night, read the review. Difficulty rankings live under the route tier list instead of being stuffed into every guide.
How to use videos on this wiki
Each guide page embeds at most one real YouTube video, placed mid-article. We do not invent IDs. The home trailer is the official teaser; gameplay pages use public sessions from SMii7Y, KYRSP33DY, Mithzan, Jozzoh, and Criken. If two videos teach the same lesson, we keep one page.
What to read after the guides
Skins and occupational costumes sit in Players. Patch history and the September 3, 2026 window sit in Updates. PC specs sit in system requirements. Official Discord, Steam, and socials sit in Links.
Treat this hub as a table of contents, not a second homepage. Pick the pain point you have tonight — legs, rope, map, or beers — and open that child page. Your friends will still fall. The guides just make the fall happen later.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common Friendly Steps questions.
Where should a new Friendly Steps player start?
Read Getting Started, then the controls guide. Invite a second player only after you can take ten steps without crawling.
Do these guides cover the demo and the full game?
Yes. The demo and playtests already showed the bar start, rope, Construction, Tornado, and The Trip. The full Steam launch is scheduled for September 3, 2026, with more routes, quests, and wardrobe options.
Is there a single walkthrough for getting home?
Use the walkthrough for the night as a whole, then open Construction or Tornado when you hit those named maps.
