Friendly Steps Tools
Practical checks before the bar door: hardware, hosting, and a night checklist.
Friendly Steps does not need a damage calculator. It needs a PC that can ragdoll four bodies, a host who is not on Wi-Fi from a microwave, and a lobby that agrees on inputs. This hub is the practical drawer. The main child page is system requirements. Everything else here is a checklist you can read out loud before someone clicks Invite.
Launch-night checklist
- Confirm the Steam app ID is 4279630 so you are not installing a namesake.
- Update the demo or the full depot. Demo 1.4.4 is the polish baseline described on the demo page.
- Read the min spec on system requirements. Integrated graphics that “play other indie games” can still choke on four ragdolls.
- Plug in Ethernet for the host. Voice chat plus physics is not a café-Wi-Fi sport.
- Bind pull and crouch before friends join. The controls page is the sheet.
- Name a lead. The co-op guide explains why the loudest player should not be first on the rope.
- Ban bottles for the first street. Items can wait.
- Pick high-contrast skins so callouts have a color.
Hosting tool (social, not software)
There is no official matchmaking sheet beyond Steam’s own lobby tools. Use this rule of thumb:
- 2 players: teaching.
- 3 players: the funny default.
- 4 players: only if freeze-and-pull already works.
If one person owns the game, check Remote Play Together in the Steam overlay. If four people own it, host on the strongest PC, not on the strongest personality.
Discord remains the backup voice layer. Official invite sits on the links hub. Mute in-game voice if you double-hear.
What this hub will not fake
No drinking calculator that pretends beers are stats. No fake overlay that aims your feet. No unofficial multiplayer executable. If a third-party “walk bot” shows up after launch, it does not belong here. Friendly Steps is a hands game.
A legitimate future tool would be a community checkpoint map or a speedrun split sheet. The speedrun guide is the clock briefing until official boards exist. Deck owners should read Steam Deck instead of assuming stylized art means Verified. Until September 3, 2026, the useful tools are hardware, hosting, the Deck unknown badge, and the checklist above.
If the session is already on fire
- Hitching: lower shadows, cap FPS, verify the spec page.
- Desync: host migrates, everyone restarts Steam Input.
- Rage: drop to two players, city street only, no Tornado.
- “I cannot walk”: five-minute drill on How to walk, then try again.
Tools on this wiki are boring on purpose. The game supplies the chaos. Your job is to remove every excuse that is not the rope.
When the checklist is done, open Getting Started if anyone is new, or the walkthrough if the legs already exist. Then close the browser. The next plant will not happen in a tab.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common Friendly Steps questions.
Is there an official companion app?
No. Steam is the launcher. This hub is a checklist plus system requirements.
Can I use a trainer or script?
This wiki does not host scripts. Friendly Steps is a physics party game. Play it with hands, not with a bot.
What is the best party size?
Three if you want comedy with a finish. Two if anyone is new. Four if your freeze callouts already work. See the co-op guide.
Where do I report bugs?
The 1.4.4 notes ask for logs through in-game instructions and Discord. Start at the links hub.
