Friendly Steps Construction Guide
Yellow steel, no handrails, and a tractor waiting for anyone who sprints.
Construction is the playtest map that taught the community to fear height. KORO.GAMES opened it again in June 2026 as a fresh slice for people who thought the city sidewalks were the whole joke. The screenshot on this page is the thesis: a squad on a crane, one body already airborne, a concrete shell and a tractor waiting below.
This is not a separate campaign with cutscenes. It is a vertical physics arena dropped into the same rope rules. If your group still treats Friendly Steps like a walking sim with extra comedy, Construction will send you to the starting line. Read How to walk and the co-op pull rules before you step onto the first girder.
What the map is asking
The site is a stack of unfinished floors, rebar cages, plank runs, and crane arms. Ground exists, but it is a punishment, not a path. You want to stay on steel. Every gap is a plant puzzle. There is no polite ramp that forgives a wide stride.
Steam news for the playtest framed Construction as a new level for veteran travelers. Translate that: if you came here to learn the mouse buttons, go back to Getting Started. This map assumes you already have a metronome.
Crane crossing
The yellow crane in the overview shot is a one-way argument. The lead plants both feet on a beam, then waits. The middle steps only onto a beam that already holds the lead. The anchor never walks while someone is mid-lift. If a player starts to lean off the open side, freeze and pull. Walking “a little faster” to outrun a lean is how the red ragdoll in the screenshot happens.
Look at your feet, not at the tractor. The tractor is there to measure your fall. Camera tourism on a crane is a wipe.
If the rope goes diagonal off the crane, the hanging player should stop tapping entirely. Taps in the air spin the pendulum. The planted players pull and then square a stance before anyone else moves. Review the E-to-pull note on the controls page if your lobby still has not bound it.
Rebar, open floors, and false ground
Unfinished concrete looks walkable and often is a hole with a texture. Probe with one foot. If the foot sinks or the physics jitter, back up along the same tiles you already trusted. Do not fan out to “find another way” while the rope still occupies the bad tile.
Rebar cages catch ragdolls. That can be lucky or it can pin a body at a stupid angle. If someone is stuck in bars, crawl them out instead of standing them up. Standing inside rebar launches people.
Planks between floors are the same puzzle as the night bridge in the walkthrough, just with a longer drop. Station to station. No skip.
Party rules for this map
- Ban bottles. Construction plus beer is a highlight reel, not a clear. Items can wait until you are back on dirt.
- Ban emotes until a checkpoint. A bow on a girder is a physics input.
- Keep the scout role quiet. There is nothing to scout except death.
- If you wipe twice on the same beam, swap the lead. Pride is heavier than a toolbox.
How this compares to Tornado and the city
City streets forgive a fall with a curb. Construction forgives a fall with a loading screen. Tornado is the other vertical specialist, with wind and even less sympathy. If your squad cleared Construction with tiny steps, you are allowed to try Tornado. If you cleared it by accident, you are not.
The route tier list ranks Construction near the top of the pain list on purpose. Use this page as a briefing, then go play the beam. No written guide plants your foot for you.
When you finally reach dirt again, take the checkpoint, drink nothing, and walk like the next curb is still a crane. That habit is the whole reason this map exists.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common Friendly Steps questions.
Is Construction in the full game or only the playtest?
It shipped as a named open playtest level in June 2026. The full September 3, 2026 launch is scheduled to include more locations in the same spirit. Treat the crane rules as launch-relevant.
Should we split up to find a safer path?
No. The rope forbids splitting. Probe with one foot while everyone else stands still. See the co-op guide for freeze-and-pull habits.
Why do we keep falling off the crane?
Someone is taking a long stride or looking at the ground instead of the next plant. Tiny steps, one body at a time. How to walk covers the stance.
Are there shortcuts on Construction?
If a skip exists, it is probably a worse beam. Stay on steel you already trusted. Shortcut hunting belongs on city streets, not open floors.
